pillow talk

I LOVE the surreal way grain sack pillows remind me of summer, nantucket, the beach…  These muted, faded, sturdy grain sack pillow covers are turning up every where and they are the perfect addition to your pile of pillows.  Their palate of sun bleached colors, though once vibrant, are now a neutral tone compatible with almost anything, adding a touch of both something old and new to your couches, beds and chairs.  Averaging 50-80 years old, these hand-woven muslin clothes were first used by farmers in Eastern Europe for transporting grain to the mills.  I first spotted this trend in pottery barn who are selling original antique grain sacks as pillow covers.  Places like eBay, paleandinteresting.com and etsy.com are also offering up the real thing.
